Sherlock

Sherlock is... love.

This one, by the way, not that hyped up crap(oh, Jude Law, I'm so sorry) that is the Sherlock Holmes movies.

I don't know why, even though the movies were well-made and had such amazing actors(can you see my residual crush on Jude Law from back there?), they just didn't do it for me. For one thing, it didn't fit with the idea of The Sherlock Holmes in my head. Robert Downey Jr. was trying to play Sherlock Holmes, but felt and acted like he was the rich guy from Iron Man. Too much swagger and energy. Oh, the plot was fine; engaging and, in both cases, if I remember correctly, culminating in some sort of big deal.

But Sherlock. Sherlock. That is brilliant. My darling brother, usually the first to mention to me what good new stuff is floating around on the IITM LAN, told me Sherlock was brilliant on the same day that I independently came to that conclusion, having watched it on television. You think that's nothing special? My brother and I almost never agree on what stuff, books or TV shows or movies, are cool and awesome and stuff like that. When we do, it's only in cases like Castle, or LOTR, which are just... unbelievably good. So, yes, it's passed the double test of Katze and her brother. But then, everyone who's watched it has agreed; it's just that good.

What's so good about it? Well, here's the thing:

1. It's uber-realistic. It feels modern, and yet, with the whole soundtrack and story elements, true to the original. I loved, loved the Reichenbach Fall episode, even though they had put such a spin on the old story--oh,  but I can't give that away, now can I? ;)

2. Chemistry. Yes, my major. No, I meant the chemistry between all the characters. There was a beautiful quote from an old review of the Lord Of The Rings that I loved:
So consistently involving because the excellent cast delivers their lines with the kind of utter conviction not seen in this kind of movie since the first "Star Wars."
And that's what I see in Sherlock, too. These amazing actors: Benedict Cumberbatch, whom I loved in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and Martin Freeman, whom I loved in The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy(which was also another british book adaptation, by the by) together creating a world so similar to ours, but considerably enriched by the prescence of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes, and of course, Dr. John Watson.

I'm going to stop nattering now. Just watch the series, please. I beg you.

Katze

PS: I tried to keep it short. I really, really did. But it's SHERLOCK!
